Herriot Hospice Homecare

Lisa Bainbridge

In 2018 Yorkshire lady Lisa Bainbridge took on a series of serious challenges for Herriot Hospice Homecare, after the charity cared for her mum, Bernice.
Fearless fundraiser Lisa has racked up hundreds of miles through a number of gruelling marathons and ultra-marathons. In March 2018, Lisa took on the Hardmoors 55, a 55 mile trail run where she braved snowy conditions and over 2,000 metres of ascent. Since beginning the challenge, Lisa has also participated in the Paris road marathon and a 64 mile trail run.
Later that year in May, Lisa laced up her running shoes once more to complete a 110 mile ultramarathon, where she ran for more than 30 hours through the day and night, supported by her husband, on hand with food and supplies to sustain her through the race.
Lisa, from Potto, Hambleton, raised funds for four charities as part of her challenge, including Herriot Hospice Homecare, which has long been close to her heart.

Lisa said: "Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February 2012, and it really came out of the blue.”

Lisa explained that, after receiving the news, Bernice, 67, deteriorated quickly, and Herriot’s services were invaluable in supporting the whole family.

“In the months that mum was near the end of her life, regular visits from Herriot really helped as they were able to advise us on how we could borrow the equipment mum needed to stay at home, for example a special bed which could be put downstairs.
“It meant that she and my dad were supported, and were able to stay at home where mum wanted to be.”
Lisa has since been a passionate supporter of local hospice care, taking part in events such as the Herriot Lyke Wake Walk and raising thousands for her hometown hospice.
